For years, one of our founders longed to introduce McKinney diners to the Mexican food he loved from the kitchen of his grandmother, Petra. So, in 2007, we created Petra Fresh Mexican Bistro to honor the delicious recopies from this beautiful woman.
At Petra Fresh Mexican Bistro, we take more time to make everything from scratch, by hand, with the freshest ingredients from recipes that are authentically Mexican, not so much Texan.
When you come to visit, you can choose to enjoy a relaxing occasion with friends and family or a quick meal on the run. Dine in or take out, you will discover authentic Mexican food you won’t find anywhere else.

A hidden gem for really fresh, casual, very tasty Mexican dishes that are both modern and authentic. It's almost a combination between Tex-Mex and Cali-Mex...with a bit of traditional, authentic Mexican cooking. Surprisingly health and quality conscious for the 'burbs. Perfect for lunch as there are many options under $10 - cheaper and more exciting that Chipotle! As a rice/beans snob, I was blown away by how good they are here - and super impressed that everything is made in house, from the salsa to the flour tortillas.

Great food. Everything is fresh. Not your typical line-mall restaurant. I have brought several friends here for their first visit and none have been disappointed.

Locally owned spot with fresh ingredients and great recipes. It’s in an odd little spot however they’ve been here successfully for a while.
Shrimp Veracruz had good flavor and quite a bit of spicy zip. Tortillas tasted handmade. They make a fresh slaw that lightens up the heaviness a lot of Mexican meals can have. Choice of rices and beans are all delish. Overall everything has a bit of heat to it so if you’re too gringo, watch out.

Carnitas were incredible and the slaw has the most unique flavor I've ever experienced. This is my Go-to spot for fresh taste.

The guajillo chicken was very authentic. Reminded me of a dish Mom used to make in Mexico. We called it azado but the Chile sauce was similar and spicy. Very good authentic Mexican food.
